Feeling Grateful

Today is a beautiful September day.  But it is also September 11th.  For those of us who remember that day in 2001, this day will never just be another September day.  Looking at my facebook and other blogs this morning, people are all remembering those whose lives were lost on that day.  I also want to send my thoughts and prayers up to everyone affected on that day.

But remembering the staggering loss also highlights for me how much I, personally, have to be grateful for.  First, I am grateful that on that particular Tuesday in 2001, my Dad did not go into work in New York City, as he had for most previous Tuesdays over the years.  He did not work in the world trade center, but did work in a building nearby.  I don’t know what would have happened, but I do know that I am grateful that he is still here for me every day, and when I think about it my heart goes out in particular to children who lost parents on that day.

Of course, I am grateful for the rest of my family too – my wonderful husband, immediate and extended family.

September 11, 2001, was my first day of 10th grade at my high school.  Since then, my life has been more blessed every year and I have been particularly blessed in this past year in which I married my best friend and we are now expecting Tiny One.  I can’t think of anything I am more grateful for.

What are you thinking about today?  Is there something you are grateful for?  (Please share!)
