Being healthy for me and Tiny One is the most important thing in my life right now. I have always striven to be healthy – with some definite bumps and distractions along the way – but there is nothing quite like a little person living inside you who is entirely dependent on you for their health and well-being to make you focus on health. I admit, I still don’t always eat as healthy as I would like, or follow some of my other health goals, but now that I am past my horrible morning sickness, I have daily goals that I try to meet every day.
- Take my vitamins! I had been taking prenatal vitamins for almost a year before we got pregnant, so this is already a habit for me. I also take cod liver oil (a brand I trust – you have to be careful with potential toxins with this product…) and extra Vitamin D and B-complex if I feel like I need it.
- Move at least a little every day. Depending on the day, I may have the energy to do one of my DVDs or maybe just for a walk. I try to do at least 20 minutes of something every day. Unfortunately, many days this summer have been too hot for me to take a walk outside, so I have acquired quite the collection of prenatal workout DVDs to keep me from getting bored! I keep meaning to get back to my gym, but am having a mental block about it… hopefully, I will get there soon!
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but 10 or more is better. I keep track of this in my food diary.
- Keep track of everything I eat in a food diary. I don’t keep track of calories right now, because that takes a lot more time and I just want to make sure that I am getting in nutritious foods and not too much junk. There are days when I look back and see that I have not done well, but that helps me adjust the next day and week to do better. It’s not about perfection, but about improving!
Whenever I accomplish one of these tasks – especially working out and taking my vitamins – I congratulate myself as if I just won Olympic gold! It helps keep me motivated and makes me feel good that I am doing something healthy for me and Tiny One.
Do you have any daily health goals? Do you reward yourself for being healthy?
