Pregnancy Resources

Online Resources:

Fertility Friend: Use to track your cycle before and while trying to conceive.  Also has excellent information on the menstrual cycle and how you can time your lovemaking to try to conceive. (I use it generally, except when pregnant and in early postpartum.)  I use both the online version and the app on my phone.

BabyCenter: Lots of information on fetal and baby development; has forums and groups based on due date and other interests, such as attachment parenting, VBAC, and homebirth.  I found the homebirth group very supportive and inspiring while I was planning my homebirth.  There is a group for everyone!

Spinning Babies: fetal positioning information.  I incorporated many of their exercises in both of my pregnancies.

Natural Pregnancy and Baby: Blog about natural pregnancy, birth and babies.  I love her podcast.  And she offers classes as well.

My favorite pregnancy books:

Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn: The Complete Guide

The Natural Pregnancy Book, Third Edition: Your Complete Guide to a Safe, Organic Pregnancy and Childbirth with Herbs, Nutrition, and Other Holistic Choices(I don’t follow the nutrition advice in this book, but love it for the herbal guidance.)

Nutrition & Supplements:

Raspberry Leaf Tea

Brewer’s Diet: I don’t think this is perfect, but a good starting point to get a balanced pregnancy diet.  It is a lot of food, and a lot of protein, so know you are likely fine eating less.  Listen to your body, and focus on eating nourishing food such as what is listed on the website.

New Chapter Perfect Prenatal Vitamin Fermented with Probiotics + Folate + Iron + Vitamin D3 + B Vitamins + Organic Non-GMO Ingredients- 270 ct Trimester Size(These are the prenatals I took before and during pregnancy, and continue to take after pregnancy.  New Chapter also has a postnatal blend now that I may try after I finish my current bottle.)

Rainbow Light, Prenatal Organic Multivitamin, 120-Count (Packaging May Vary) (I like Rainbow Light as a brand, and took this when I was doing an elimination diet while breastfeeding T. Always look at the ingredients if you are avoiding any foods, since formulations do change.)

Omega-3s are so important during pregnancy and postpartum. Luckily, there are several great options. These are two I have taken:

Nordic Naturals – Prenatal DHA, Supports Brain Development in Babies During Pregnancy and Lactation, 180 Soft Gels

New Chapter Wholemega for Moms Fish Oil Supplement, 100% Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil with Prenatal DHA + Omega-3 + Vitamin D3 – 90 ct

Belly Butter Recipe (I still make and use this!)

Shirt & yoga pants from Old Navy. A Bellaband underneath. Pink hoodie from Motherhood Maternity – I wore it all the time!

Maternity Clothes and Accessories:

Ingrid and Isabel Bellabands (I had two that lasted through both pregnancies, and I love them!)

Old Navy Maternity (Inexpensive, lots of great basics)

Pink Blush Maternity (a bit more expensive than old navy, feminine style, have great nursing/maternity dresses)

H&M Maternity (didn’t discover their maternity clothes until after having T, but I have enjoyed their nursing basics)

Motherhood Maternity (range of prices and styles)

Belly Belt (I wore this to support my belly during my second pregnancy; it helped relieve some pelvic pain)

*Look at some of your favorite stores online – many are now branching out into maternity wear.
