Happy Summer, Little Buddy! The days have been warm and sunny, and we have been spending more time outside – which is where you want to be!
You walk, run, and climb very well. You recently learned how to come down the stairs correctly (backwards or on your bottom) and have been practicing that multiple times a day. You also recently went through a growth spurt and can suddenly reach so many more surfaces. Mommy is in trouble again!
You still point to everything and want it named, but you don’t have many reliable words yet. You say “Mama” (usually when you want to breastfeed), “Dada,” and I think you are saying “Da” for dog. You understand pretty much everything – so I expect that at some point you will start saying many words at once.
You can follow directions of several steps, such as “get the plate from the table and put it in the drawer” or “pick up the block and put it in the basket.” Mommy and Daddy have been putting this skill to use, along with your desire to help clean. When water is dumped on the floor we give you a washcloth and you do a pretty decent job of wiping it up (you did spill it in the first place!) You often walk around with the small broom “sweeping” everything in your path – particularly the toys your sister has set up.
You love to transfer things, put tops on container, dig in dirt and play in puddles. I started to put together some Montessori-inspired activities for you, and you like to try to emulate your sister as well. You take out the cylinder blocks, and you can put them away – just not in the correct slots…
You also like to drink water – out of cups, glasses, water bottles, or anything else that might hold water! We got you your own water bottle, but you still prefer to use a glass or your sister’s (of course).
You love to look at books, and turn the pages yourself, but you do not like it when we try to read the book to you or turn the pages for you! Sometimes you will sit and listen to a book I am reading with K, but not for long. You will sit for a few minutes to build, though. You can stack a few blocks to make a tower, and you love to throw balls. When you get angry, you throw everything in your reach!
You are crazy about your Daddy. When he gets home from work, you immediately want to be picked up, and you want to hang out with him all evening, and on the weekends.
You are 32.5 inches long, 26 lbs 4.5 oz, and your head circumference is 18 inches. You wear clothes in 12-18 months and 18-24 months. You still wear size 4 diapers – we thought you were ready to move up to 5, but then there was a lot more leaking – and the one-size cloth diapers. Sometimes I put you in the size large Fuzzibunz on the smallest snap, and they seem to be working pretty well, too.
You are still teething! Now you have four on the top and bottom and are working on your one-year molars. The bottom left one is already in, all the remaining three are all starting to poke through at once. It makes you quite cranky some days, and up a lot during the night. I am hoping we will get a little break from teething once these are through, though.
