To T at 18 Months

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsHappy year and a half birthday, T!  I know I say this a lot, but this is such a fun age!  You have suddenly become so expressive as you communicate with us, and your joy in your discoveries of the world is contagious. To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou have been walking, running and climbing for a while.  You have mastered going up and down the stairs on your bottom – you are very fast when you want to be!  Recently, you have been enjoying climbing up on things; you often move the stool from the bathroom to the middle of the room and climb on it.  Love to play with water, brush your teeth (which is really an excuse to play with water).  But if we go to a splash park, you don’t want to get wet!

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou still love nature and being outside.  You often clap when I tell you we are going for our walk (we try to walk every weekday morning).  I have started letting you walk occasionally on our walks – and as I get more comfortable I will let you walk more.  You point out a birds, dragonflies, ants, etc – often before K or I notice them.  You also love vehicles.  Cars, trains, trucks, and airplanes all get excited squeals.  School buses have been particularly exciting recently – probably because we have been seeing more of then as the school year is starting.

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou love to clean.  You will take a cloth, or a wipe, and use it to wipe all the walls and furniture, but your favorite activity is vacuuming.  We have had to hide the vacuum so you don’t always have it out – you even manage to plug it in.  I have also started giving you more “school” activities over the last few months.  You love transferring with a spoon and pouring.  I have also been working with you on colors, animals, etc.

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou do not have many words.  You can say “Mama” and “Da” (what you call Daddy) and milk.  I think you are saying other things occasionally too, but it is hard to know as you don’t use many regularly.  You are much more communicative with your body, though, and you have been signing.  You sign, “hot,” “more,” “milk,” “water,” and “I don’t know/where.” I need to be better at using more signs since you are picking them up quickly right now.

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou are not a super picky eater, but have days when you just want a bottle and don’t want as much solid food – I suspect it is when your teeth are bothering you, and our pediatrician told us that you might just slow down eating a bit at this age.  You still breastfeed and drink bottles of milk before nap and bedtime, and during the night.  We just started getting more serious about cutting out your middle-of-the-night nursing and bottles, and you are not happy about it.  I am hoping we get past the screaming fits soon, so we can all get more sleep.  Once you are sleeping through the night without eating (or at least 10pm to 5am) we will move you to sharing a room with K.

To T at 18 Months | Happy Mom MusingsYou are 29 lbs and 33.5 inches tall.  18 months clothing is getting small, 24 months fit pretty well, but I am buying mostly 2T for fall & winter clothes in the hope that they will fit through the spring.

We all attended Aunt Alex’s wedding in July, and you and K were definitely a hit!  You were adorable in your fancy outfit and you got to hang out with lots of family members, which is always fun.
